Communities recognize Memorial Day with special ceremonies

Senators Urge Trump to Take Tougher Action Against China in S. China Sea

The Trump administration should take tougher action to counter Chinese militarization in the South China Sea, a bipartisan trio of senators has urged in a letter sent to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The letter, sent by Democratic Sen. Ed Markey along with his Republican colleagues Sens. Marco Rubio and Cory Gardner, expressed "grave concerns" over Beijing's actions and stated that "we believe there is strong bipartisan congressional support for taking significant actions in response to the Chinese government's continuing militarization of the South China Sea."

Duterte will ‘go to war’ over South China Sea resources, minister says

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has said China will cross a red line if it unilaterally mines the natural resources of the South China Sea, according to the country's Foreign Minister Alan Peter Cayetano. In a speech during a flag-raising celebration at the Department of Foreign Affairs Monday, Cayetano defended the Philippine government from allegations they were taking a soft policy on Chinese militarization of the South China Sea.

Memorial Day 2018

Several organizations took part in the Memorial Day observance held Monday morning at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, including the U.S. Marine Corps, Yuma Police Department, Border Patrol, Vietnam Veterans of America, Yuma County Sheriff's Office, Yuma Young Marines, American Legion Post 802 and Navy League Sea Cadets. 5th Marines Vietnam War Memorial Dedicated at Camp Pendleton

When the war was over, 2,706 Marines from the 5th and the Navy Corpsman that served beside that regiment had died in Vietnam. At Camp Pendleton's Memorial Garden Monday the 5th Marines Vietnam War Memorial honoring those service members was dedicated in front of a crowd that included Gold Star families and Vietnam Veterans.
