The Department of Defense's budget proposal documents showed total defense spending for the 2018 fiscal year at $603 billion, a 10 percent or $52 billion increase over current congressional budget caps, but only about 3 percent higher than former President Barack Obama's proposed 2018 fiscal year defense budget.
