California Chrome gets his 1st look at Gulfstream track

The leading money winner in North American racing history went for a jog at Gulfstream Park early Sunday, two days after arriving to prepare for the $12 million Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 28. California Chrome has never raced in Florida, and his brisk pre-dawn trek onto the Gulfstream dirt – on an unseasonably chilly morning, the 48-degree air feeling colder in the wind – was the first of many scheduled for the next few days. He’s set to have daily early morning gallops until Saturday, when the plan calls for him to breeze five furlongs.

Family pride inspired Eastleigh to second-half clean sheet at Brentford

MARTIN Allen put the emphasis on family pride at half-time at Brentford yesterday to ensure his Eastleigh side and their loved ones could walk away from Griffin Park with their heads held high. The Spitfires had endured a punishing first 45 minutes against the Bees, going in 5-1 down against their three-league-higher Championship hosts and, at that point, you wouldn’t have put it past the rampant West Londoners to have racked up double figures.

Suspensions lifted for 4 Russians in skeleton

The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation has allowed four Russians to resume competing even though they are under investigation for alleged doping rule breaches at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The IBSF had issued provisional suspensions to the four, including Olympic gold medalist Alexander Tretyakov, on Dec. 30 after the International Olympic Committee opened an investigation into apparent tampering with drug test samples.

Illinois Basketball: 3 Observations From the Indiana Loss

Jan 7, 2017; Bloomington, IN, USA; Illinois Fighting Illini head coach John Groce gives instructions to his team during a timeout during the second half of the game at Assembly Hall. The Indiana Hoosiers defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 96 to 80. Mandatory Credit: Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports This was a loss that I expected, but much like the Maryland game, it was the way the Illini lost that has me worried.

FA Cup live: Chelsea v Peterborough

GREAT CHANCE FOR THE POSH! Maddison pops up down the right-hand side now and cuts inside on his left foot before whipping an absolutely outstanding cross into the centre of the area. Lopes meets it, but not with a particularly good connection which allows Begovic to make the vital save! What an opportunity that was for the visitors.

New York Rangers are not Last Year’s Mess

The New York Rangers made the postseason in the 2015-16 campaign, but the season was largely considered a mirage. When New York found themselves embarrassed by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, all that saw through the Rangers’ successes were proven right.

Steelers receiver Antonio Brown reacts after making a catch during the second half of a game against the Ravens on Dec. 25. In order to prepare for Sunday’s wild-card game against Miami, the Steelers practiced this week with fans on and the doors open at the team’s indoor practice facility. The goal was to simulate the anticipated blustery game conditions at Heinz Field, where the temperatures are expected to be in the teens.

Perisic gives revitalised Inter fourth successive league win

MILAN: Ivan Perisic scored at the end of each half as Inter Milan came from behind to beat Udinese 2-1 away on Sunday and notch their fourth successive Serie A win. Inter, who had not conceded a goal in their previous three outings, had an early let-off as goalkeeper Samir Handanovic sent a clearance straight to Jakub Jankto, who failed to take advantage.

Lions were capable of entertaining, just not contending

Remember when Darius Slay stole back the ball against Philadelphia? And Matthew Stafford rifled that touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin against Washington? Or when Matt Prater hit that 58-yarder as time expired in Minnesota? And then Golden Tate flipped into the end zone in overtime? They came back to win eight games in the fourth quarter or overtime, an NFL record. Their odds of doing that were more than 1 in 32 billion.

Could Eagles target Giants’ Victor Cruz in free agency?

There is a strong possibility that the Giants will release wide receiver Victor Cruz this offseason, as he holds a cap hit of $9.4 million next season, but only $1.9 million in dead cap space if he was released. Cruz, a career Giant, could take less money with the Giants to stay, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Giants were open to that as well at a much lower number.

Trump celeb crew awaits his turn in spotlight, and their own

In this July 18, 2016 file photo, actor Scott Baio gives two thumbs up after addressing the delegates during the opening day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The entertainment industry’s liberal bent, combined with election-season outrage over President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial comments on women and minorities, left Trump persona non grata with most A-listers, particularly those who have rolled in President Barack Obama’s circles.
