California Chrome gets his 1st look at Gulfstream track

The leading money winner in North American racing history went for a jog at Gulfstream Park early Sunday, two days after arriving to prepare for the $12 million Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 28. California Chrome has never raced in Florida, and his brisk pre-dawn trek onto the Gulfstream dirt – on an unseasonably chilly morning, the 48-degree air feeling colder in the wind – was the first of many scheduled for the next few days. He’s set to have daily early morning gallops until Saturday, when the plan calls for him to breeze five furlongs.

The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation has allowed four Russians to resume competing even though they are under investigation for alleged doping rule breaches at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The IBSF had issued provisional suspensions to the four, including Olympic gold medalist Alexander Tretyakov, on Dec. 30 after the International Olympic Committee opened an investigation into apparent tampering with drug test samples.

Cruz, a career Giant, could take less money with the Giants to stay, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Giants were open to that as well at a much lower number.

The people of Grand Junction don’t want a sports arena that is only going to be used maybe four to six months a year the rest of the time sit idle and be considered a “white elephant” while costing the taxpayers money for the time it is not being used.
