Mitch Marner will not play for Maple Leafs this weekend

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without star rookie Mitch Marner for both of their games this weekend, coach Mike Babcock announced on Saturday. Marner was listed as ” day-to-day ” with an apparent shoulder injury on Friday after he had to exit Wednesday’s game against Columbus after crashing into the boards.

Auston Matthews scored in regulation and overtime in his first outdoor game, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in the Centennial Classic. In a game delayed 30 minutes at the start because of sun on the ice at BMO Field, Matthews won it with the 20th of his rookie season after the Maple Leafs blew a three-goal lead in the third period.

Kadri scores 2 goals, Maple Leafs blank Avalanche 6-0

Nazem Kadri scored twice, Frederik Andersen stopped 38 shots for his first shutout this season and the Toronto Maple Leafs routed the last-place Colorado Avalanche 6-0 on Thursday night. Auston Matthews scored his team-leading 16th goal to get the Maple Leafs started in the first period.

Auston Matthews was dealt one of the toughest matchups of his young NHL career, and he came out on top. The 19-year-old scored his team-leading 15th goal, fired a career-high eight shots and played a career-best 21:22 while squaring off primarily against three-time all-star Ryan Getzlaf and former MVP Corey Perry on Monday night.
