The Carolina Hurricanes head in to the All Star Break with a lot to think about as they lose Thursday’s match-up against the Los Angeles Kings by a score of 3-0. Thursday night’s loss was the first time the Hurricanes have been shut out since January 17, 2016.

Scott Hartnell scored his second goal of the game midway through the third period to push the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Saturday night. Hartnell scored in the first period and got the tiebreaker in the third, helping the Blue Jackets overcome a terrible second period to beat the Hurricanes for the second time this week.

Carolina equipment manager Jorge Alves played the last 7.6 seconds of the Hurricanes’ 3-1 loss Saturday night to the Tampa Bay Lightning after signing a professional tryout contract to be the backup goalie in place of Eddie Lack, who is ill. “It’s special, it’s unbelievable,” said Alves, who didn’t face a shot.
