Sri Lanka on Monday named Rangana Herath as skipper to replace Angelo Mathews who was dropped from next week’s two-Test home series against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka Cricket said the 38-year-old left-arm spinner Herath was named captain although he had retired from the shorter formats of the game.

Herath to lead SL in Test series against BAN
Veteran left-arm spinner Rangana Herath will be leading the Sri Lanka Test team when Bangladesh come over for a full series starting March. The decision to appoint Herath as the skipper came after Sri Lanka’s usual skipper Angelo Mathews was ruled out due to a hamstring injury which he sustained in the series against South Africa at Johannesburg.

ICC starts ‘Big Three’ rollback despite BCCI opposition
The International Cricket Council had agreed in principle to rollback the ‘Big Three’ domination in the game’s finances and administration process which was decided in 2014. A new executive committee was decided to form in 2014 which comprises of Board of Control for Cricket in India , Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board to make most of the key executive decisions.

Dave Richardson said the ICC chief executive’s committee “explored a whole range of solutions to the future structure of bilateral cricket” The International Cricket Council has confirmed radical plans to introduce leagues to Tests and one-dayers, but its hopes of phasing out the controversial ‘Big Three’ model has been met with resistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. In an effort to give international cricket significant structure, a meeting of the ICC’s chief executives’ committee in Dubai has yielded an agreement to put forward plans for a nine-team Test league to run over a two-year period from 2019.
