Lawsuit alleges medical device to replace patient’s jaw had ‘inherent defects’

Maxoniq is being sued by a patient who said in a court filing their device was ‘not fit for purpose’, allegations it denies

A medical device that was intended to replace a patient’s jaw had ‘inherent defects’ and caused increased pain, nerve damage and limited jaw movement, according to a statement of claim lodged in the county court of Victoria.

Guardian Australia has previously reported that two other patients whose jaw pain was treated with the Maxoniq OMX TMJ prosthesis device alleged in separate cases filed to Victoria’s county court that they suffered life-changing injury, loss, and damage due to complications after their surgeries. In those cases, the patients are taking legal action against maxillofacial surgeon Dr George Dimitroulis, a company director of Maxoniq and who also oversaw their treatment. Dimitroulis is defending the claims.

Russia-Ukraine war: Images suggest Russia’s new intercontinental ballistic missile suffered major test failure – as it happened

Expert analysis shows crater about 60 metres wide at launch silo for Sarmat missile test

Relations with Russia should be reconsidered after its war in Ukraine is over, French President Emmanuel Macron said yesterday. He was speaking in Paris during a meeting for peace organised by the Catholic community of Sant’Egidio. You can watch the video here. The Kyiv Independent has the following report containing Macron’s translated remarks:

Speaking at an event in Paris, the French president urged people to imagine “tomorrow’s peace” in Europe in a new form, and in a new reality.

“We will have to think about a new form of organisation of Europe and rethink our relations with Russia after the war in Ukraine,” Macron said.

Peskov said he had no information about a test of Russia’s RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, after arms experts said on the basis of satellite imagery that it appeared to have failed in a test this month.

When asked about international chess governing body FIDE’s ban on Russian and Belarusian players ,the Kremlin said that Ukraine and the west had put pressure on FIDE.

Vladimir Putin will meet Mikhail Kovalchuk, the head of the Kurchatov nuclear research institute, on Monday.

The Kremlin said it will study Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s so-called “victory plan” if it sees official information on it. Details of the plan have not yet been released to the public.

Mike Johnson announces compromise after decoupling government funding from Trump-backed citizenship bill

US congressional leaders have agreed to a short-term funding deal in a move that averts a damaging pre-election government shutdown and also amounts to a snub for Donald Trump.

The prospect of a shutdown at the expiration of the current government funding on 30 September had been looming after Republicans insisted on tying future funding to legislation that would require voters to show proof of US citizenship – known as the Save Act and backed by Trump but opposed by Democrats.
