4th and 5th accusations of Kavanaugh misconduct revealed in Senate transcripts

A fourth and fifth accusation has been made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, one by a woman from Colorado and the other by a man in Rhode Island on behalf of a "close acquaintance." Both accusations were anonymously made to Senate offices, and were raised in a call on Tuesday with GOP Senate investigators.

Emergency officials head south to help with hurricane rescue efforts

The Coast Guard Cutter Oak, which is usually stationed in Newport, R.I., is staging in Baltimore and will operate out of Portsmouth, Va., where its mission will be "making sure the ports are clear for traffic after the hurricane," said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Zachary Zupp. Two other Coast Guard cutters - Juniper and Ida Lewis - will remain in Newport on standby, ready to go if necessary, Zupp said.

Appeals court decides fate of nation’s oldest synagogue

The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston announced Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, that the nation's oldest synagogue, Shearith Israel, had won its case over the ownership of Touro Synagogue, in Newport, the nation's oldest synagogue building. The appeals court ruled that Shearith Israel owns both the synagogue building and historical Jewish ritual objects that have gone with the synagogue.

Father, Daughter Among Naval War College Graduating Class

The Iannacone family of Florida has two reasons to celebrate at U.S. Naval War College's graduation ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, today. The reasons the family came to Newport for a week are that both father Al and daughter Monica, a Navy Reserve lieutenant, will receive their master's degrees at the event -- an accomplishment that may be a NWC first.
