EC airport authority nixes T hangar rent increase

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Airport Authority has rejected a proposed rent increase for T hangar space, meaning local pilots won't be paying more to keep their planes at Elizabeth City Regional Airport. A majority of the authority board declined to support Airport Manager Gordon Rowell's proposal to raise hangar rent from $200 a month to $225.

Fair Maps: Advocate urges redistricting reform

It's easy to say electoral districts should be drawn in a fair, nonpartisan way, but how can it be done? Local residents debated that question during the Fair Maps Town Hall Thursday night at the Pasquotank County Courthouse in Elizabeth City. The event featured government reform advocates and gerrymandering opponents Jane Pinsky, of the NC Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform, and Bob Phillips, of Common Cause North Carolina.

Redistricting not cause of Dems’ political woes

I am writing this letter to better inform the public about the meeting of the League of Women Voters of Northeastern North Carolina that took place in Elizabeth City on Saturday, Feb. 25. My first thought is that most of the people at the meeting are delusional. They want to blame the Democratic Party's losses on gerrymandering of districts and not on the real facts that have changed in North Carolina and the nation.

O’Malley stumps for Clinton in EC

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley touted Hillary Clinton as the nation's next commander-in-chief Thursday, telling local Democrats at Elizabeth City's new Democratic campaign office she would beat Republican rival Donald Trump and his "overtly fascist" policies. O'Malley made his remarks at the new office on Halstead Boulevard, where workers noted Thursday that North Carolina is only 27 days away from early voting and 46 days away from election day.

Clinic treats thousands of patients at base, aboard vessels in NC

With more than 1,000 members directly enrolled for services at the Stephen C. Pugh Memorial Clinic, and nearly another 1,000 stationed within the state on Coast Guard vessels, the clinic provides medical and dental care to about 2,000 active duty Coast Guard personnel. Members can be seen for by appointment for routine primary care services and on a space available basis for acute care.
