At the national Panther Veteran Organization reunion, Congressman Brian Higgins presented the family of United States Army veteran Sergeant George Dennis with a Bronze Star and other medals earned while serving in World War II. The Bronze Star is awarded to members of the military distinguishing themselves by heroic service while engaged in an action against an armed enemy.

During May, the 522nd flag to fly atop Old Glory Tower in the North End honors George Gomes Jr., who served in the United States Army as a Tech 5 with the Anti Tank Company, 366th Infantry, during WWII. T5 Gomes was an entertainment specialist and also held the following military qualifications: Expert Rifle, 2nd CL Gunner, Sharpshooter Carbine, and Combat Infantryman.

It was a few weeks ago while driving into neighboring Fort Campbell, when the young Army MP at the gate handed back to me my retiree ID card, offering his own "Thank you for your service."
