Long Beach Election 2016: Alan Lowenthal and Andy Whallon face off again in 47th District

Even as the presidential election has entertained and enraged American voters for more than a year, there are key races closer to home that, while muted in comparison to the noisy national campaign, will shape the region and state after the Nov. 8 decision day. The race for a seat in the 47th Congressional District, which is anchored in Long Beach and spreads through Lakewood, Signal Hill and cities in western Orange County, pits incumbent Democrat Alan Lowenthal against Republican Andy Whallon , two opponents who have clashed previously.
