New director named at troubled Bedford VA hospital

Amid a major shakeup at veterans hospitals across the country, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has named Joan Clifford the new director of the Bedford VA. The hospital has had two interim directors since the VA removed Christine Croteau, the last permanent director, in 2016 amid an ethics investigation.

Markey joins other pols seeking quick probe of Bedford VA death

US Senator Edward Markey Tuesday joined the chorus of elected officials calling on the Veterans Affairs secretary to speed up the investigation into the death of a Vietnam veteran who died at the Bedford VA while a nurse's aide was allegedly playing games on her computer. Markey asked Shulkin to "rectify" the systemic problems at Bedford and other VA facilities around the country to ensure that health care workers are adequately trained and supervised.

Probe urged over alleged drug use at Bedford, Lowell VA sites

Elected officials and veterans advocates said Tuesday that they were deeply disturbed by allegations that employees at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford may be involved in selling drugs to patients. On Sunday, The Sun reported that the Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs was investigating an alleged drug-dealing ring at the hospital that includes employees and patients and may be linked to at least two overdose deaths in VA facilities.
