The Foundation for Government Accountability has long promoted work requirements for food stamp recipients: able-bodied people under age 59 who aren't caring for small children should work or volunteer 20 hours a week for their benefits.

Fueling speculation about his White House ambitions, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker will headline a Democratic fundraiser in South Carolina, which hosts the South's first presidential primary. The Orangeburg County Democratic Party told The Associated Press that Booker is scheduled to attend its annual fundraising gala Oct. 18. That will put him in front of more than 1,000 South Carolina Democrats, including many of the state's most prominent black leaders and activists.

President Donald Trump has reportedly woken up to the possibility of being impeached by Democrats but thinks he can play the situation toward a 2020 reelection. If he is impeached but not removed from office, the news website Axios said Wednesday, Trump would try to play the victim card and paint Democrats as having unfairly attacked him.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency reportedly told CBS News correspondent David Begnaud that it provided the water to the central government in response to Hurricane Maria in 2017, but it is unclear what kept the water from being distributed. Many of the deaths in the aftermath of Maria were attributed to power outages, and limited access to heath care and clean drinking water.
