Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Clay and Nicholas Counties

Two additional Disaster Recovery Centers in West Virginia have opened in Clay and Nicholas counties to provide recovery assistance to survivors of the June 22 severe storms, floods, mudslides and landslides. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency , various state agencies, and the U.S. Small Business Administration staff the centers, giving survivors a chance to discover what programs are available to help them, and to get their questions answered.

With hurricane season upon the Crossroads, Victoria County commissioners will consider awarding a disaster and storm recovery monitoring services contract at their Monday meeting. In a letter to county commissioners, Victoria County Emergency Management Coordinator Rick McBrayer recommended approving a disaster and storm monitoring contract Monday, which would allow Victoria County to negotiate associated costs with disaster and storm recovery up front.

President Obama Signs West Virginia Disaster Declaration

The President today declared a major disaster exists in the State of West Virginia and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides beginning on June 22, 2016, and continuing. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

newEmergency efforts continue in West Virginia after devastating floods

The West Virginia National Guard has operational areas in Greenbrier, Nicholas and Kanawha counties and is covering eight counties, according to a news release from the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Twenty-three fatalities have been confirmed -- 15 in Greenbrier County, six in Kanawha County, one in Ohio County and one in Jackson County.

Supes Address Butte Fire-burned Trees, Cannabis EIR

On Tuesday the Calaveras supervisors plan to ink agreements for post Butte Fire tree services and to help grease the skids for permanent cannabis regulations. As part of the county's Butte Fire phase two recovery efforts, the Calaveras County supervisors anticipate signing a $1.2 million professional services agreement with Tetra Tech, Inc. It is estimated that over 5,800 fire-damaged public hazard trees along Calaveras County roads within the burn scar need to be removed.

President Declares Disaster for Texas

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Texas to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and flooding beginning on May 26, 2016, and continuing. The president's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Fort Bend, Grimes, Hidalgo, Hood, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Travis, Waller, and Washington counties.
