Arlington, VA, Tuesday, August 29, 2017 - The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is providing assistance to active duty and retired Marines and Sailors who are experiencing financial difficulties in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Every day of the week, around the globe, the Society provides interest-free loans and grants for basic living expenses, emergency travel expenses, and other family emergencies for military members and their families facing financial crisis or need.

Services held in NY for Marines killed in Mississippi crash

Hundreds gathered at a memorial service Sunday for nine Marine Corps aviators who were killed when their New York-based transport plane crashed in Mississippi last month. A total of 15 Marines and a sailor died July 10 when a C-130 transport plane crashed on July 10. The victims included nine crewmembers who served in a Marine Forces Reserve transport squadron based at Stewart Air National Guard base in Newburgh in New York's Hudson Valley.

Coast Guard member guilty of sex assault, lying about it

The U.S. Coast Guard says Petty Officer 3rd Class Juan A. Guzman was sentenced in Seattle Friday to confinement for four years, a reduction in rank, forfeiture of all pay and a dishonorable discharge. The Coast Guard says Guzman was convicted of committing a sexual assault in Port Angeles, Washington in May 2014, and then lying to Coast Guard Investigative Service agents about it in July 2015.
