Pumphrey breaks NCAA record, SDSU wins Las Vegas Bowl

Donnel Pumphrey broke the NCAA career rushing record Saturday in his college finale, running for 115 yards and a touchdown in San Diego State’s 34-10 victory over Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl. Pumphrey passed former Wisconsin star Ron Dayne’s mark of 6,397 yards on a 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter, with teammates swarming him on the sideline, and wrapping up his sensational career in his Nevada hometown with 6,405 yards.

Saint Rose men, women pick up wins

The College of Saint Rose men’s basketball team jumped back into the win column on Saturday with a 90-72 victory over Philadelphia in the first round of the East Coast Challenge tournament at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium in Albany. Saint Rose snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory after opening the season with a nine-game winning streak.

Rebecca Johnston had a hat trick as Canada’s national women’s hockey team rallied past the United States 5-3 on Saturday in an exhibition game.
