Barton back in trouble for breaking betting rules

English footballer Joey Barton is back in disciplinary trouble after being charged with misconduct for placing 1,260 bets on matches or competitions over a 10-year period. Barton this week signed a short-term deal with Premier League team Burnley after cutting short his contract at Scottish club Rangers, where he was handed a one-match suspension for breaking Scottish Football Association rules by placing 44 bets on games between July 1 and Sept.

Steady Eddie: A look back at five big moments over Encarnacion’s time in Toronto

Edwin Encarnacion’s strong run with the Toronto Blue Jays ended this week when the veteran slugger agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Cleveland Indians. The ball eventually landed in the second level of seats at Rogers Centre to give the Blue Jays a 5-2 walkoff victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the 2016 American League wild-card game on Oct. 4. The Blue Jays went on to sweep the Texas Rangers in the AL Division Series before falling to Encarnacion’s new team in five-games during the AL Championship Series.

Hockey’s Sherlock Holmes

Sporting his 1905 Amherst Ramblers replica hockey sweater, David Carter looks every inch like one of the ghosts in a Canadian version of Field of Dreams “Pond hockey really resonated with me and I set out, like a detective, to piece together its origins,” he says. “What drew me to the ‘hockeyists’ was their passion for the game – and the allure of northerness, the northern nature of the game.”

Blue Jays Throwback: Brandon Morrow, then and now

Blue Jays Throwback: Brandon Morrow pitched for parts of five seasons in Toronto, totalling 538.0 IP with a 4.40 ERA Back in 2012, it looked like the Blue Jays had their rotation of the future. Raiders mailbag: Mario Edwards Jr. expectations, Derek Carr under center and yes, more Aldon Smith

I’d expect Mario Edwards Jr. to debut in at least a somewhat limited role, maybe in the 15-20 snap range to get his feet wet. It’s impossible to know what Edwards is going to be like after not playing in a regular season game in more than an entire calendar year, but without a doubt, he would be an improvement if he’s near the level he was at last season.

Donald Trump Wants to Add a Ballroom to the White House. Where Will It Go?

As soon as the 45th president of the United States takes office, he will be confronted with a quandary: Where to hold a big fancy party? The White House is old and its rooms are small, which in 2009 led President Obama to host the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, in a temporary pavilion erected on the South Lawn. President Trump will never agree to host a dignitary in such squalor; he’s going to need a ballroom.

Blues 55 mins ago 11:13 p.m.Blues flop late again, fall 5-2 to Lightning

Repeated deficiencies cost the Blues again heading into the Christmas holidays, and they’ll have a week to stew on losing a two-goal lead on the road again. It started out as what was going to be a feel-good story for Wade Megan, who the Blues recalled earlier in the day from the Chicago Wolves to play in his first NHL game because of the upper-body injury to Paul Stastny, and Megan scored his first NHL goal, but a common theme for the road bit the Blues again, and they succumbed to the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 on Thursday at Amalie Arena.
