On the first day of spring semester classes at Georgia, the parents of Bulldogs walk-on kicker Rodrigo Blankenship issued a statement Thursday going public with why they feel like coach Kirby Smart should have put their son on scholarship after his redshirt freshman season. “Our son being refused a scholarship is an injustice to him as well as a crushing hardship for his family,” Ken and Izabel Blankenship said in an email to some media outlets, including OnlineAthens.com.

Minnesota Basketball: Previewing Northwestern

After a narrow loss at home against Michigan State, a missed opportunity, the Gophers showed guts and backbone on the road against a good Purdue team to steal a road win and do more than enough to get back on track early in the conference season. Wichita State beats Drake 90-65 behind Morris, Smith

Shaquille Morris scored 13 points, Daishon Smith added 13 with three 3-pointers, and Wichita State used a big first half to beat Drake 90-65 on Wednesday night to win its fourth straight and improve its all-time record against the Bulldogs to 41-4. Landry Shamet added 11 points, Markis McDuffie had 10 and grabbed 11 rebounds, and the Shockers outrebounded Drake 54-28, including 18-5 on offensive boards, resulting in 26 second-chance points.

Saints sign two players out of the CFL

After adding defensive backs Delvin Breaux and Erik Harris out of the CFL the last two seasons, the team went back North on Wednesday evening and signed linebacker Adam Bighill and defensive back Forrest Hightower out of the league. A five-time CFL All-Star, Bighill, 28, has recorded 489 tackles, 33 sacks, eight interceptions and eight forced fumbles over 99 games in the CFL.
