FDI Dental World Federation’s new definition of oral health announced

An editorial in the December issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association discusses the FDI Dental World Federation’s new definition of oral health: “Oral health is multifaceted and includes the ability to speak, smile, smell, taste, touch, chew, swallow, and convey a range of emotions through facial expressions with confidence and without pain, discomfort, and disease of the craniofacial complex,” reads the definition. Traditionally, oral health has been defined as the absence of disease.

Lakewood man, 86, goes missing while walking dog

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department detectives are looking for a missing 86-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease who was last seen walking his dog in Lakewood Friday morning. Edgar “Ed” Vernon Mayfield left his home in the 4000 block of Ocana Avenue around 10:30 a.m. with his 3-year-old white, tan and black Beagle, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
