Hispanic backers sour on Trump after immigration speech

Some of Donald Trump's Hispanic backers distanced themselves from the Republican nominee on Thursday for standing by a hardline approach to illegal immigration in a key speech after indicating for weeks that he may soften his approach. Trump tried to clarify confusion about immigration, his signature policy issue, in a speech on Wednesday.

Port Authority, Army Corps complete $2.1B harbor deepening project

The Port Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers yesterday announced the completion of a $2.1 billion, 50-foot harbor deepening project for the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Main Navigation Channel Deepening Program, which began construction in 2004, will allow larger ships to access the Port's container terminals, including Port Newark, GCT Bayonne and the Howland Hook Marine Terminal.

Murphy calls for probe of Fulop campaign

The gubernatorial campaign of former Goldman Sachs executive and U.S. ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy is asking state election officials to investigate Mayor Steve Fulop, alleging Fulop is financing a gubernatorial campaign of his own with funds intended for his mayoral re-election "in clear defiance of New Jersey law." Fulop is widely believed to be gunning for the Democratic nomination for governor next year but he has not declared his candidacy.

Trump to visit Detroit in outreach to black voters

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will continue an effort to peel away minority support from Democratic rival Hillary Clinton on Saturday, visiting a church and touring neighborhoods in the largely black city of Detroit. The former businessman and reality TV star will be accompanied by Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential hopeful who grew up there, and will give an interview for a Christian television program.

Obesity rates drop in four states
