Health care workers and other community members are rallying at noon Monday in front of Highland Hospital to demand that U.S. immigration officials halt the imminent deportation of registered nurse Maria Sanchez and her husband on Tuesday. The couple, who moved to the Bay Area in the early 1990s from a small town in Mexico, are undocumented immigrants.

Oakland warehouse fire: ATF concludes work, leaves site

The local field division for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced Sunday that its team has completed work at the scene of the lethal Dec. 2 Oakland warehouse fire that claimed 36 lives. The team left the fire's site in the 1300 block of 31st Avenue, but it is still being secured, according to a statement late Sunday afternoon from ATF spokeswoman Alexandria Corneiro.
