A man and woman will face court today in Melbourne accused of murder after the body of a man in his 40s was found in a city street, AAP reports.

Police say the charges follow an alleged incident at a home near Glen Waverley train line in Binalong Avenue, Chadstone on Tuesday, where a man in his 40s was fatally assaulted.

It can be a sensitive and confronting topic for many people so it is important that any future legislation is done through intensive and thorough consultation with all Territorians.

This is an imperative step forward for the Territory and I am honoured to play my part in this important consultation process.

A US-style police pursuit of a car allegedly speeding through the suburbs of Sydney has ended with the arrests of a man and a woman after they crashed in the city’s south-west.

The chase was sparked on Thursday when New South Wales police officers detected a suspected stolen vehicle travelling on the Hume Highway in Prestons, south-west of Liverpool, about 9.30am.

Burney says the advert that ran in the Financial Review encouraging a “no” vote on the referendum over the Indigenous voice to parliament was “totally unacceptable”.

I think Matt Kean, the Shadow Health Minister in New South Wales, really nailed it, David, where he likened it to a racist throwback from the Jim Crow days in America, but it was also incredibly sexist and it is something in the words of Matt Kean, the ‘no‘camp has every right to have a say, but there are better ways of doing it.

I know Aboriginal Australia and I know that people know what the important issues - things like what I’ve identified - education, health, housing, jobs - and Josie Douglas who is this remarkable Aboriginal woman in the central land council put it perfectly: We are about changing lives, not changing dates.

The 21-year-old man allegedly on numerous occasions assaulted and threatened a 20-year-old woman who was known to him. The man also allegedly filmed the woman during an intimate act without consent and threatened to release the vision, NSW police said in a statement.

Witnesses to a brazen shooting at a hairdresser in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville at lunchtime on Friday have described seeing the two victims talking after they had been shot and residents fleeing for safety.

Police said the shooting at a salon on Marrickville Road, the inner-west suburb’s bustling main strip, at 1.50pm, was “obviously a targeted attack” and were exploring whether it was linked to another daylight shooting in Bondi Junction last month. The victim in that shooting was Sydney drug kingpin Alen Moradian.

Rents continued to climb across Australia in the June quarter, particularly in the biggest cities, with a median unit costing more to rent in Sydney than a median house in every other state capital, data from Domain showed.

A record migrant intake that will swell the nation’s population by 715,000 people over two years and a return of overseas students and temporary visa holders will add to the “rental pressure cooker”, Domain said in its quarterly report. About 127,000 additional dwellings will be needed this financial year alone.
