Bridgegate defendants fight to stay out of jail

The two former Christie administration officials convicted in the Bridgegate scandal are seeking a delay in the start of their prison terms. Bill Baroni, who served as deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Bridget Anne Kelly, former Gov. Chris Christie's deputy chief of staff, were convicted in 2016 in connection with a scheme of political retribution involving the shutdown of several local access lanes to the toll plaza of the George Washington Bridge.

FAA probes reason storm snarled flights at Kennedy airport

The Federal Aviation Administration says it is investigating the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's actions during a winter snowstorm that caused major disruptions at Kennedy Airport. The FAA says it will seek to determine whether the Port Authority complied with regulations requiring the timely removal of snow from all aircraft movement areas.

100 million people affected by East Coast’s deep freeze

About 100 million people faced a new challenge after the whopping East Coast snowstorm: a gusty deep freeze, topped Saturday by a wind chill close to minus 100 on New Hampshire's Mount Washington that vied for world's coldest place. Jaw-clenching temperatures to start the weekend throughout the Northeast hit Burlington, Vermont, at minus 1 and a wind chill of minus 30. Both Philadelphia and New York were shivering at 8 degrees.

Christie, Cuomo announce new Port Authority leadership

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday appointed new leaders for the agency that controls the region's airports, bridges and tunnels. Kevin O'Toole, a Republican former New Jersey state senator, was named chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Christie nominates ally to Port Authority board

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has nominated a political ally whose name came up at the George Washington Bridge lane closure trial to serve on the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Republican state Sen. Kevin O'Toole was not accused of playing a role in the scheme, which prosecutors say was aimed at punishing the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee for not endorsing Christie's re-election.

Bridgegate defendants cite new ruling in seeking reversals

Two former allies of Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are pinning hopes of having their George Washington Bridge lane-closing convictions reversed on a Massachusetts corruption case that was thrown out last month. Attorneys for Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni filed letters with a federal judge in Newark on Tuesday spelling out the similarities between the cases and why they feel those justify their motions for a new trial.

Bridgegate witness: A loyal Christie soldier? Or self-serving braggart?

As mysterious lane closures at the George Washington Bridge came under heightened scrutiny by the news media and state lawmakers in late 2013, David Wildstein told a close friend he wanted to fall on the sword to try to kill the story. Perhaps by resigning from his made-up position as director of interstate capital projects of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Wildstein thought, he would appease reporters and Democratic legislators digging into the September traffic jams that virtually shut down the borough of Fort Lee, Bergen County, for four days.

Cuomo seeks probe on tunnel closure tied to corruption case

New York's governor demanded an investigation Tuesday into allegations that a lane in one of the traffic-clogged tunnels connecting Manhattan to New Jersey was shut down as a special favor to a politically connected businessman accused of paying bribes to police commanders. Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed the inspector generals for both the state and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to conduct investigations to figure out what role, if any, the Port Authority played in allowing the closure at the Lincoln Tunnel.
