Historic City News readers are patriotically invited to attend the open meeting of the Saint Augustine Tea Party held at the Village Inn located at 900 North Ponce de Leon Boulevard on Tuesday May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. The special guest speaker will be Jeremiah Blocker, Republican candidate for St. Johns County Commission District 4. As a conservative candidate, Jeremiah says that he understands that we need to maintain our great quality of life while keeping our tax burden low through fiscal responsibility. Protecting our citizens and children is top priority.
Federal Emergency Management Agency and St. Johns County are hosting community outreach meetings regarding recently proposed floodplain map updates on the following dates: Community officials, FEMA representatives, and insurance professionals will be available to answer questions regarding the proposed updates and the flood zone appeal process. Released in May, the proposed updates are based on results of a recent floodplain study.
As most active local candidates complete qualifying for the 2016 Primary and General Election, the first surprise candidate appears to run as a write-in and there are still two and a half days left before the filing period is closed. St Johns County Commissioner Bill McClure decided not to seek re-election for Seat 3, opting to make his bid for Congress.
