House Republican leaders on Thursday circulated a proposal to end the Trump administration's practice of separating immigrant children from their families when they are apprehended at the border - one that would, in effect, allow children to be detained alongside their parents. The provision is included in a "discussion draft" of broader GOP legislation aimed at striking a compromise between conservative and moderate Republicans on immigration by balancing relief for young undocumented immigrants, billions of dollars for President Donald Trump's border wall and changes to legal immigration programs.

Promising to hold FBI officials accountable for any misconduct related to the investigation of Hillary Clinton's emails during her time as Secretary of State, the FBI Director on Thursday said that while a new internal report made clear there were errors in judgment linked to that investigation, it did not show the FBI wrongly dealt with that politically sensitive investigation. "This report did not find any evidence of political bias or improper considerations actually impacting the investigation that was under review," the FBI chief said, referring to the Clinton email probe, though he made clear, the actions of certain officials would be under further review.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday he's not comfortable with a Trump administration policy that separates children and parents at the southern border, as House Republicans, under increasing pressure to address the humanitarian crisis, raced to finish a new immigration bill. "We don't want kids to be separated from their parents," Ryan said, adding that the policy is being dictated by a court ruling that prevents children who enter the country illegally from being held in custody for long periods.

Among them is H.R. 2851, The Stop Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues Act, which would significantly expand the powers of the Department of Justice to unilaterally prohibit synthetic drugs chemically similar to currently banned drugs and determine penalties accordingly.

Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, called the prevalence of suicide, especially among LGBT teens, "a serious problem that requires national attention" in a speech delivered on the Senate floor to commemorate Pride Month. "No one should ever feel less because of their gender identity or sexual orientation," Hatch said Wednesday, describing the bullying, discrimination and even estrangement experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.
