Democratic candidates for governor jockey for position

With just over two months before the party convention, six Democrats angling to be the front-runner argued over the future of Connecticut on and who's best-qualified to lead the state Thursday night. While Republican candidates for governor have been grappling on televised stages in the run-up to the May convention, Democratic hopefuls have been meeting in smaller, more-intimate gatherings around the state to explain their visions for the future of Connecticut.

Tolls back on Legislature’s table

The General Assembly will again consider installing electronic tolls on state highways, renewing a debate that's becoming an annual ritual at the state Capitol . State Rep. Henry Genga , D-East Hartford, has submitted a bill that would bring electronic tolls to an unspecified number of highways and state Sen. Ted Kennedy , D-Branford, a rising star in the Democratic Party , is pushing the idea at various forums.

Grassley questions oversight of foreigners who get US flight training

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is demanding information about the Obama administration's oversight of foreign nationals who receive flight training in the United States. In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Grassley, R-Iowa, said an Oct. 11 airplane crash in East Hartford, Conn., has raised his suspicions about flight school training of the pilot, Feras M. Freitekh, a Jordanian national living in the United States.
