Village plans Floodplain Management Workshop May 4

The Village will hold a Floodplain Management Workshop next week to give residents and homebuilders an opportunity to discuss stricter flood mitigation requirements for new construction and major remodeling projects. The workshop, set for Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, will also address resiliency and flood prevention as a whole.

New Mapping Shows Community Flood Risks

LIVE OAK, FLA., Apr. 14, 2017 Area residents and governments will have the opportunity to review updated mapping information to better prepare and protect homeowners and communities in the event of flooding. The Suwannee River Water Management District , Federal Emergency Management Agency and Florida Department of Emergency Management are hosting open house meetings for residents and officials in Dixie, Levy and Taylor counties during the month of April to review the proposed Flood Insurance Rate Maps and answer questions.

Congressional panel demands answers on ricin at Anniston’s CDP

A congressional committee that oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency in December wrote the agency's director demanding answers about the mistaken use of a deadly toxin at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston. In that Dec. 23 letter, a copy of which was forwarded to The Star on Tuesday, bipartisan committee leaders ask FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to respond to several questions about the agency's handling and knowledge of the problem that resulted in almost 9,600 civilian firefighters, nurses and emergency medical personnel being exposed to the deadly toxin.
