Ed Woodward has promised to keep improving Manchester United’s squad, although the executive vice-chairman has said this summer’s transfer window will not see the same “churn” of players. United have splurged vast amounts on new players since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, including last summer’s world-record acquisition of Paul Pogba after deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
Fourth Quarter guides Express over Tornado
With the Elmira Express viewed as the favorite to win the Southern Tier Athletic Conference semi-final match up over the host Purple Tornado, for the first three quarters of play it appeared as though the Tornado were destined for the STAC championship game, and with the momentum and energy on their side it looked like it was going to happen as the game turned into the final hour. Then an Elmira offensive onslaught took over the game, allowing the Express to chug along as the Tornado fell 55-40.
Police raid Kazakh biathlon team lodgings ahead of worlds
The Austrian federal criminal agency said Thursday it raided the lodgings of the Kazakh national biathlon team on the eve of the world championships on suspicion of doping. Police said they seized medical equipment, drugs and mobile phones late Wednesday, adding that criminal authorities were investigating whether Austrian anti-doping laws have been breached.
Oakley busted at Knicks game
Former Knicks star Charles Oakley was forcefully removed from his seat at Madison Square Garden, handcuffed and arrested after a scuffle near team owner James Dolan. Oakley shoved security guards before they pulled him away from his seat behind the baseline during the first quarter of the Knicks’ 119-115 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night.

Attendance appears to be on the rise finally at Boise State, with the Broncos coming off their two largest crowds of the season, including the 7,560 for Utah State last week. As Air Force comes to town late Saturday afternoon for BSU’s annual Black-Out Game, the Taco Bell Arena average has risen to 4,783.

Long, the veteran defensive end who just completed his first season with the Patriots, wrote on Twitter that he has been planning to skip the White House visit but hadn’t been asked about it before.

Yuna Kim reveals Olympic torch for 2018 Pyeongchang Games
The one-year countdown to the Pyeongchang Games began Thursday with Yuna Kim revealing the Olympic torch and organizers opening online ticket reservations. South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn and an International Olympic Committee delegation led by Gunilla Lindberg, who heads the IOC’s coordination commission for the Games, also attended the ceremony in Gangneung, which will host the ice sports events in 2017.

Kyle Korver hasn’t given much thought to his free agency this summer, but, yes, he’d like to re-sign with the Cavs. Korver, 35, scored a season-high 29 points on a season-best eight 3-pointers in Cleveland’s 132-117 win over the Indiana Pacers Wednesday night.
