US House, Senate inviting social media giants to testify
The House and Senate intelligence committees are inviting tech giants Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet - the parent company of Google - to appear for public hearings as part of their investigations into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, The Associated Press has learned. The House intelligence committee is planning to hold a hearing in October and the Senate intelligence committee has invited witnesses to appear Nov. 1. The announcements of public hearings come the day before Twitter is scheduled to hold closed-door staff briefings with both panels.
Hino announces new facility, 250 news jobs in Wood County
Hino Motors Manufacturing announced Wednesday it plans on expanding operations in Wood County, with plans centered around the purchase of the former Cold Water Creek distribution center in Mineral Wells and reconfiguration into a truck production facility. Hino, which is owned by Toyota Motor Corp., will make a $100 million investment to the 962,000-square foot facility in hopes of making it operational by early 2019.

The Trump administration is restricting lawmakers in both parties from visiting storm-ravaged Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands aboard military aircraft this weekend in order to keep focused on recovery missions there, according to multiple congressional aides. The decision comes as the Pentagon is intensifying its relief efforts on the islands as the U.S. government struggles to respond to devastation caused last week by Hurricane Maria and earlier by Hurricane Irma.

With more details emerging about private charter flights taken at government expense by top officials of the Trump Administration, leading lawmakers on a key oversight committee in Congress asked the White House on Wednesday for details on those flights, raising questions about the proper stewardship of taxpayer dollars. "The Committee is examining the extent to which non-career officials at federal departments and agencies either use government-owned aircraft for personal travel or private non-commercial aircraft for official travel," read a bipartisan letter sent to White House Chief of Staff.
