LSU seeks new hospitals to train doctors in north Louisiana

LSU is shopping around for new health care deals in north Louisiana, hoping to move some of its doctors-in-training to more hospitals in the region because the university's relationship with the operator of its own hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe continues to deteriorate. The Associated Press reports that LSU President F. King Alexander calls the university's arrangement to have the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana run the two north Louisiana hospitals "a three-and-a-half-year thorn in our side.

South Carolina Democrats are blasting the decision by S.C. Education Television not to broadcast any political debates this year, saying the public network is cutting off the voice of a rising minority party that's getting stronger. “It is regrettable that SCETV has apparently decided to focus on political punditry rather than informing the public about the choices facing voters this November,” the party said in a statement Friday.

Port Authority, Army Corps complete $2.1B harbor deepening project

The Port Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers yesterday announced the completion of a $2.1 billion, 50-foot harbor deepening project for the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Main Navigation Channel Deepening Program, which began construction in 2004, will allow larger ships to access the Port's container terminals, including Port Newark, GCT Bayonne and the Howland Hook Marine Terminal.

UTRGV gets $7million grant for child care

The parents of hundreds of infants and toddlers will be able to receive child care services after the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was awarded a grant of about $7 million from the federal government. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, along with the office of U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, announced the grant Wednesday afternoon.

S&P Global Ratings warned on Thursday that the Chicago public school system's B-plus credit rating could fall deeper into the junk level due to its "extremely weak" cash position.
