Trump lawyers call Comey ‘Machiavellian’ in note to Mueller

Lawyers for President Donald Trump unleashed a blistering attack on former FBI Director James Comey in a confidential memo last year to the special counsel, casting him as "Machiavellian," dishonest and "unbounded by law and regulation" as they sought to undermine the credibility of a law enforcement leader they see as a critical witness against the president. The letter, obtained by The Associated Press, underscores the intense effort by Trump's legal team over the last year to tarnish Comey's reputation and pit the president's word against that of the former FBI director.

Polluting diesel trucks win last-minute reprieve from EPA

In the final hours of Scott Pruitt's tenure as administrator, the Environmental Protection Agency moved to effectively grant a loophole that will allow a major increase in the manufacturing of a diesel freight truck that produces as much as 55 times the air pollution as trucks that have modern emissions controls. The move by the EPA came after intense lobbying by a small set of manufacturers that sell glider trucks, which use old engines built before new technologies significantly reduced emissions of particulates and nitrogen oxide that are blamed for asthma, lung cancer and other ailments.

NBC Hands Warren A Safety Net, Gives Her An Excuse To Refuse DNA Test

An NBC News fact-check may give Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren the cover she needs to further explain her repeated refusals to take a DNA test that would prove the Native American ancestry she has claimed to have. DNA tests are not widely accepted as proof of tribal citizenship - in part because the DNA could not show a specific tribe, only some genetic markers from Native people - and are more unreliable for Native Americans than for other ancestral regions.

Dina Rudick/Globe Staff/File In Warren, Patrick, two ways to take on Trump

The day before Elizabeth Warren announced she was leaving Harvard to run for the US Senate, she gave Deval Patrick a call to ask for advice, eager to hear what a novice campaigner could learn from a veteran. Now, as the former Massachusetts governor and the Bay State's senior senator both seem to be positioning themselves for 2020 presidential runs - perhaps against each other - they could soon both need plenty of water as they shout themselves hoarse at campaign stop after stop, trying to stand apart from the pack - and each other.

It’s decision time for Susan Collins

Any minute now, the president will announce his second pick for the Supreme Court, a nominee expected to cement a lasting conservative majority on that storied bench. This would be the same president, you'll recall, who promised to appoint "pro-life justices" who would tip the court so that it would "automatically" overturn Roe v.
