Ronny Jackson withdraws from consideration for VA chief

President Donald Trump's pick to lead Veterans Affairs, Ronny Jackson, withdrew Thursday in the wake of late-surfacing allegations about overprescribing drugs and poor leadership while serving as a top White House doctor, saying the "false allegations" against him have become a distraction. In a statement the White House issued from Jackson, he said he "did not expect to have to dignify baseless and anonymous attacks on my character and integrity."

Tanker Rescues Castaway in South China Sea

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced that on April 14, 2018, the MOL-operated/managed crude oil tanker Altair Trader rescued a castaway in the South China Sea. At 19:10 local time on April 14, while underway in the South China Sea toward the port of Kawasaki, Japan, the Altair Trader noticed a light on the sea surface ahead the starboard and spotted a castaway.

Ramzi bin al-Shibh, the alleged deputy plotter of the September 11 terrorist attacks, is being held in an isolation cell with only a prayer rug and Koran - no bed and no running water - as punishment for protesting conditions in his Guantanamo confinement, his lawyer said on Saturday. Bin al-Shibh, 45, has for years claimed that somebody is causing his cell to vibrate and making noises in a campaign of sleep deprivation reminiscent of his 2002-2006 abuse in CIA custody.
