Ducks vs. Stars BEST/WORST: Tying Up Loose Ends

The Ducks put on arguably their best defensive performance of the season against a high-powered, albeit struggling, Dallas offense. Defenders gave little room for the Stars forwards to work with while entering the zone, the backcheck was effective, and most importantly, zone exits were relatively clean for the most part.

The Altus High School men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to Chickasha on Thursday to participate in the ninth annual Chickasha Basketball Classic. Although the ladies got a favorable matchup with the Yukon Lady Millers junior varsity squad, the men were faced with the tough challenge of taking on the one-loss Douglass Trojans.

Basketball tournament semifinals scheduled

The Frazer Bank Invitational has been a week-long affair and after a one-night break Wednesday, action resumed at Western Oklahoma State College’s gymnasium Thursday with play between all one-loss tournament teams. On Tuesday, teams squared off to find out who would advance to the championship semifinals Friday and who would drop to the consolation bracket.

Lady Bulldogsa late surge overtakes Lady Elks

Before Tuesday night, the Elk City Lady Elks were 4-2 and one of the top teams in Class 4A basketball, but with the Lady Bulldogs coming to town, they prepared for a battle against one of the top teams in Class 5A. The Lady Elks ended 2016 with a loss to Woodward and the Lady Bulldogs ended their 2016 with a win over the Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs, and Tuesday evening Altus won again.

The Altus Bulldogs basketball team traveled to Elk City on Tuesday to take on the Elks in their first game since Christmas break ended and the new year began and suffered a disappointing loss once again. The last time the Bulldogs were on the court, they suffered their second defeat of the season to the Burkburnett Bulldogs in a game that was never really close.
