Traditionally, the first Wednesday in February marks the first day a high school athlete can sign a National Letter of Intent, a document binding a player to attend an institution in exchange for athletic aid or scholarship. Once a player signs the NLI, all other coaches and universities are prohibited from recruiting the athlete.
