Jockey on ‘edge of breakdown’ during reckless racing incident: lawyer

Intentionally colliding with a race horse and unseating the jockey on another was “the only way out” for South Australian jockey Josh Cartwright, his lawyer claims, adding “he didn’t want to go home a jockey”. Cartwright, 22, committed the offence of reckless riding while aboard Senior Council during Race Eight at Morphettville Racecourse on January 14. He was today issued with an 18-month suspension of his riding licence and a six-month suspension of his training licence at a penalty hearing in front of Thoroughbred Racing Australia stewards at Morphettville Racecourse.
