Combs files for seat in 59th District House

Rik Combs, of Lohman, filed Tuesday as the fifth Republican candidate seeking to represent the 59th Missouri House District seat currently held by Mike Bernskoetter, R-Jefferson City, who is term-limited. Combs grew up on a cattle farm and served as a senior officer in the United States Air Force for parts of three decades before retiring, then serving as CEO for a Gainesville, Florida, consulting firm from 2006-09.

When Missourians went to the polls Nov. 8, they voted for Donald J. Trump and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to be their next president and vice president of the United States of America. After all, the Trump-Pence ticket won Missouri over Hillary Clinton and Sen. Tim Kaine, 56-37 percent, 1.585 million votes to 1.054 million.

Prayers for peace, officers comments

About 40 law enforcement members stood to be recognized during Sunday's interdenominational prayer service for law enforcement at Concord Baptist Church. After a week of violence across the nation, hundreds of Jefferson City-area residents gathered to pray for those in law enforcement, as well as for peace, the end to racial strife and for those who died in last week's shootings.
