Dems, voters group try to unite in 12th District

WASHINGTON - In the year-plus since Donald Trump was elected, a group of voters largely opposed to the GOP president have become one of the most boisterous, organized political groups in the 12th Congressional District. The group, which calls itself “Indivisible Ohio District 12,” gathered weekly at then-Rep. Pat Tiberi's district office in Columbus, urging the Genoa Township Republican to oppose Trump policies.

Justice Pat DeWine seeks dismissal of ethics charge

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Patrick DeWine is seeking the dismissal of a judicial ethics charge alleging his improperly used the influence of his office in asking a county prosecutor to hire his son for a summer job. DeWine is not required to respond to another charge - that he has improperly failed to recuse himself from hearing cases involving the office of his father, Attorney General Mike DeWine - until his motion to dismiss receives a ruling from a three-judge panel.

Kucinich wants to eliminate oil and gas drilling in Ohio

Dennis Kucinich promised a “major announcement” today in Columbus, and he delivered a promised moratorium on fracking and outright ban on injection wells if he is elected Ohio governor. Kucinich told reporters his goal is to eliminate all oil and gas drilling – not just fracking – in Ohio by the end of his four-year term.

Leetonia area home included in federal investigation of treatment center

The FBI, one of several agencies investigating Braking Point Recovery Center, is asking members of the public who have had interactions with the addiction treatment center to get in touch if they have any concerns or information. The FBI is not releasing the reason why nearly 100 agents from multiple agencies searched the recovery center's locations on Wednesday, said FBI special agent Vicki Anderson.

Rep. Stivers promoted to brigadier general

In a ceremony at the Beightler Armory in Columbus attended by friends, family members and his fellow members of the military, Stivers, 51, a fourth-term congressman serving central Ohio, was promoted from a colonel to a brigadier general of the Ohio National Guard. In his new position, Stivers will oversee a joint staff of Army and Air Guardsmen tasked with creating better contingency plans for no-notice deployments, such as natural disasters.
