Amazon has acquired the rights to the Martin Scorsese -produced project, which will debut on its streaming service on May 26 as a six-part series. Long Strange Trip is fully sanctioned by The Grateful Dead and was directed by Amir Bar-Lev , whose credits include the critically acclaimed doc The Tillman Story .

Amazon Studios today announced it has acquired LONG STRANGE TRIP, an unprecedented four hour documentary about the Grateful Dead from director Amir Bar-Lev and executive producer Martin Scorsese . Set to debut May 26 on Amazon Prime Video in the US and UK as a six part documentary, with additional territories to be announced, Long Strange Trip probes the creative forces, subversive ambitions, and interpersonal dynamics that drove the Grateful Dead in their 30-year quest for moments of collective inspiration.
