Embattled submarine hunter Ultra Electronics killed off the takeover of its US partner on Monday because of rising fears in Washington about a monopoly. The UK-based military supplier's A 180 million deal for its joint venture partner, New York-listed Sparton Corporation, has been stymied by US officials who want the pair to compete for American navy contracts instead of merging.
