Thirteen Bedford Central Students Participate In County Music Festivals

Thirteen students in the Bedford Central School District were among those who participated in a pair of county-wide music festivals this past weekend. The district, which announced the students’ roles, noted that it was Westchester County School Music Association’s 60th Annual Elementary, Junior & Intermediate All-County Music Festivals.

4 CSX railroad workers injured after train derailment

Westchester County Police say a total of four people were injured Tuesday after a train derailed in Newburgh. Authorities say two of the victims were CSX employees working on equipment near the tracks along River Road in the New Windsor-Newburgh area, where the derailment happened.

FBI Offers Reward In String Of Westchester Homicides

The FBI announced Tuesday that it’s adding its muscle and up to $5,000 rewards to help Mount Vernon officials solve five open homicide cases. To do so, the FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Gang Task Force is asking for the public’s help in solving the homicides that run from 2011 to 2016, FBI officials said.

A 53-year-old man from Mount Vernon is facing life in prison after being indicted for his potential involvement in the beating death of his roommate with canes. High Steel Structures workers stood in the rain, cheered and applauded as they watched the final two “superload” girders for the new Tappan Zee Bridge in New York leave the Williamsport plant. The massive blue girders, each 12 feet high, 120 feet long and weighing 78 tons, left the plant Tuesday morning with police escorts headed for the bridge project assembly yard in Coeymans, N.Y. High Steel at its Williamsport and Lancaster plants have fabricated approximately 50,000 tons of steel to form the approach spans to the new bridge.

New York State Police are seeking the community’s assistance as they search for a schizophrenic man that went missing in Westchester County last month and may require medical attention. On Monday, state police issued a “missing person” alert for 52-year-old Joseph A. Bodai, who was reported missing from Larchmont on Feb. 17. He was last seen wearing a puffy jacket, green shirt and blue jeans with black and red sneakers.
