Artist who surprised Malibu with ‘Pink Lady’ dies at 81

Lynne Westmore Bloom, who scaled to the top of a California tunnel to paint the “Pink Lady,” a beloved piece of guerrilla public art, has died Her husband William Bloom tells the Los Angeles Times that she died Friday in Encinitas at 81. In 1966 Bloom spent nights clinging to the rocks above the Malibu Canyon tunnel painting a naked lady, 60 feet tall, clutching flowers. When it was unveiled, commuters stopped to gawk, news crews covered the spectacle, and the county hired workers to cover the piece.
