(Photo by Chaiyot Pupattanapong The navy has assigned the frigate HTMS Kraburi to protect the Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry, which made its first trip on Thursday after rough seas delayed the unofficial launch from Jan 1. The frigate was already deployed in the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, the navy statement said.

Bus services to South halted by flooding

The road linking Sungai Kolok and Waeng districts of Narathiwat was flooded, with water 30-50 centimetres deep on Thursday morning. Major flooding in several areas, particularly in Thung Song district of Nakhon Si Thammarat, has forced the temporary cancellation of bus services between Bangkok and the South, the state-run Transport Co announced on Thursday.

Policeman arrested for killing school director

A border patrol policeman has been arrested for the murder of a school director at a grocery shop in Yala’s Muang district on Wednesday afternoon, police said. Pol Col Chamlong Suwalak, chief of Muang district police, said the questioning of Adisak Asae, an employee of the grocery shop who witnessed the killing, led to the arrest of Pol L/Cpl Nirun Im-erb, 26, attached to Border Patrol Police Unit 34, which is based in Tak’s Mae Sot district.

Enjoyable but hazardous

A few thoughts about my visit: I know that people with disabilities are pleased with the ramps installed on Bangkok sidewalks. Unfortunately, they are now being used as motorcycle taxi ramps and the sidewalk has become a motorway.

Court rejects bail appeal by activist ‘Pai Dao Din’

THE Region IV Court of Appeal in Khon Kaen yesterday rejected a petition by pro-democracy activist Jatupat Boonpatararaksa, who is better known as “Pai Dao Din”, which sought to block the revoking of his bail. In a video-conference hearing, the court upheld the bail revocation on the grounds that Jatupat had shown a “lack of consideration” regarding state authority and the law, and that he might tamper with evidence if released.
