Australia Day scorcher for Perth with mercury set to hit forty degrees

On Thursday, come what the Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar called “the hot gold hush of noon,” Perth will be sweltering through forty degrees as it celebrates Australia Day. Ms Mackellar’s ode to Australia My Country famously states “I love a sunburned country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.”
